Christian Counseling For Anxiety
Christ-centered support for the anxious heart and overwhelmed mind
Finding Peace in the Middle of Anxiety
Maybe your mind constantly runs through every possible outcome. Maybe you find yourself worrying about things you can't control, struggling to slow down, or carrying a sense of uneasiness even when everything appears fine on the outside. You may pray, read Scripture, and genuinely trust God, yet still find yourself feeling anxious.
Christian counseling gives you a place to bring both your anxiety and your faith. You don't have to pretend you're okay, and you don't have to choose between professional mental health care and your relationship with Christ.
At Breakthrough Mental Health Counseling, your relationship with Jesus is honored and welcomed. Counseling is grounded in professional, evidence-based therapy, while your faith can be intentionally integrated into the work when you want it to be. This may include exploring Scripture, prayer, your understanding of God, or the ways your faith shapes how you experience anxiety and respond to difficult emotions.
Professional Therapy That Honors Your Faith
Christian counseling does not mean choosing between your faith and professional mental health care. Your counseling remains grounded in evidence-based therapy, while your relationship with God and your Christian faith can be an intentional part of the work when you want them to be.
I believe there is often meaningful alignment between what we learn through clinical research and what Scripture has long taught us about the mind, emotions, relationships, and the human experience. Approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy can provide practical ways to examine thoughts, beliefs, and patterns, while Scripture can offer another meaningful lens through which to understand those same struggles.
Christian counseling can also look much more personal than talking about Scripture. We may explore how you understand God, what you believe He thinks about you when you are struggling, or whether you feel safe being honest with Him about what you are experiencing. You may know that you can bring your worries to God, yet still find yourself afraid to actually do so.
Therapy can become a safe place to begin practicing that vulnerability. Together, we can slow down, put words to what you are feeling and thinking, and explore what it looks like to bring those things into your relationship with God. My role is not to tell you what your faith should look like, but to walk alongside you as you explore it within the context of your mental health and personal goals.
Christian counseling with me is professional therapy that takes your whole experience seriously, including your thoughts, emotions, relationships, values, and faith.
How Christian Counseling for Anxiety Helps
Christian counseling for anxiety is a place where spiritual growth and professional clinical care can work alongside each other. Together, we can explore the patterns, thoughts, beliefs, and experiences that may be contributing to your anxiety while developing practical ways to manage what you are experiencing. Depending on your needs and goals, this may include approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) or EMDR to help you better understand your anxiety, shift unhelpful patterns, and build healthier ways of responding to difficult thoughts and emotions.
At the same time, we can invite God into the places where worry feels heavy. We may explore what Scripture says about the thoughts and beliefs you are carrying, how you understand God's character and presence, or what makes it difficult to bring your fears and emotions to Him. Faith can become part of the process of understanding your anxiety rather than something you feel you have to set aside in order to receive professional mental health care.
The goal is not simply to make anxiety disappear or tell you to “just trust God.” Instead, we can work together to understand what is happening beneath the anxiety, develop tools that help you respond differently, and create space for you to grow in your relationship with God as you learn to face what feels difficult. You lead the pace of the work, and I walk alongside you with both clinical guidance and respect for the role your faith plays in your life.
A Christ-Centered Path for Anxiety Relief
Anxiety often grows in silence, and it can feel isolating when your thoughts begin spiraling. In our work together, you can explore:
Patterns of thought that intensify fear and worry
How your walk with God has been affected by anxiety
Ways Scripture speaks into your anxious moments
How tools like CBT and EMDR can support the work God is doing within you
Faith-based coping skills that help you stay grounded and connected to God’s presence
You will learn tools you can use in daily life, while also being reminded of God’s faithfulness as you take each step forward.
Our Faith Foundation
Scripture teaches that God created you with intention, and through Christ you are restored and deeply loved. Although anxiety can feel like it overshadows your identity, it does not define who you are. You are a child of God, held secure in His hands.
This foundation shapes the entire counseling experience. You never need to set aside your relationship with Jesus when discussing your worries and fears. Instead, you are invited to explore how your anxiety affects your spiritual life and how your faith can strengthen your emotional well-being.
What Sessions Can Look Like
Every experience is personalized, but sessions may include:
Prayer at the beginning or end of session
Scripture reflection that connects to your presenting concerns
Faith-based coping and grounding skills
Conversation about how your thoughts align or conflict with biblical truth
Discussion about how therapeutic techniques support spiritual growth
Exploration of how anxiety may be impacting your relationship with God
Together, we look at both the practical and the spiritual pieces that influence your anxiety. Your relationship with Jesus is always honored in the process.
