Finding Renewal in Your Walk With Christ
You don’t have to face this season alone
Harrisonburg is a community filled with beauty and connection. From the rolling hills just outside town to the fellowship found in local churches, there are many reminders of God’s goodness. Yet even in a close-knit place like this, you may find yourself wrestling with anxiety, past hurts, or worries that weigh heavy on your heart.
Christian counseling can give you a safe place to bring both your struggles and your faith, knowing you will be met with understanding and encouragement. Together, we can invite Jesus into the process, allowing Him to bring comfort, clarity, and renewed strength into your daily life. With support, you can begin to let go of the weight you’ve been carrying and step into a season marked by peace, resilience, and a deeper connection with God’s purpose for you.
Faith and Healing: Inviting Jesus into the Counseling Process
Christian counseling is more than therapy with a spiritual twist—it’s an intentional partnership between your faith and the therapeutic process. In our sessions, we might begin with prayer, reflect on a passage of Scripture, or invite the Holy Spirit to reveal what needs to be brought into the light.
You’ll be equipped with both biblical and clinical tools to navigate anxiety, grief, trauma, or life transitions. Healing is not about ignoring pain but allowing God to meet you in it. As you process emotions and experiences, you’ll see how His truth brings clarity, conviction, and comfort.
Jesus modeled compassion and presence with those who were hurting. In the same way, faith-based counseling invites His presence into the very places where healing is needed most—transforming pain into purpose and fear into faith.
Christian counseling in Harrisonburg can support you as you:

Blending faith with evidence-based care
Why Shared Faith Matters in Counseling
For many Christians, finding a therapist who shares their faith is deeply important. You may long to talk about Scripture, prayer, or spiritual struggles without having to explain your beliefs—or worry that they’ll be misunderstood.
When you work with Breakthrough Mental Health Counseling, you can freely express your faith while also addressing emotional and mental health challenges. Together, we’ll explore how God’s Word and evidence-based practices work hand in hand to bring growth and renewal.
This shared foundation allows for deeper trust and connection in the counseling process. You’ll know that your counselor not only understands your clinical needs but also shares your desire to walk closely with Christ, even in seasons of difficulty.
Why I offer Christian Counseling
Faith and therapy working together
When I first began my work as a counselor, my focus was on learning the skills, completing my training, and growing through internships. But as I continued my own walk with Jesus, I began to see how clearly Scripture points to the truth that everything we have—our breath, our lives, our gifts, and even our knowledge —comes from God alone. These blessings are not meant to be kept to ourselves, but to be shared in service to others, to wash one another’s feet, and to live as the hands and feet of Jesus in this world.
The more I grew in my faith, the more I realized that counseling should not be separate from a relationship with Christ. In today’s world, it can feel difficult for Christians to know how to address mental health struggles while staying rooted in faith. Yet we were never meant to walk through these challenges apart from Him. Bringing Jesus and the Holy Spirit into the counseling room allows us to hold both truth and grace—to acknowledge hardships while also finding the purpose, growth, and hope that God provides.
This is why I offer Christian counseling. My desire is to create a safe, non-judgmental space for believers to wrestle honestly with life’s struggles while staying anchored in their faith. In our work together, I will walk alongside you as both a guide and an encourager, meeting you where you are while also holding you accountable when it’s needed. My prayer is that in our time together, you will not only find support and tools for managing your struggles but also experience the presence of Jesus more deeply in the process.
How Christian Counseling Helps with Anxiety and Worry
Anxiety can leave you feeling tense, restless, and uncertain—stuck in cycles of “what ifs” and constant mental noise. It’s easy to start believing that peace is out of reach. But Scripture reminds us that God’s peace “surpasses all understanding” (Philippians 4:7).
Through Christian counseling, you’ll learn how to recognize anxious thought patterns, calm your body’s stress response, and ground yourself in biblical truth. We’ll explore evidence-based tools like cognitive behavioral techniques (CBT) alongside prayer, mindfulness, and Scripture reflection.
Our goal isn’t just to reduce symptoms—it’s to help you experience lasting peace rooted in God’s promises. Over time, you’ll begin to replace fear-based thoughts with truth-filled confidence, remembering that even in moments of uncertainty, God is still in control.

Navigating Community Expectations in a Close-Knit Town
Faith based counseling that meets you where you are
In a close-knit town like Harrisonburg, being surrounded by familiar faces can be both comforting and challenging. You may feel pressure to appear as though everything is fine, even when you are struggling inside. The weight of community expectations, or the fear of others noticing your hardships, can make it harder to reach out for support. Christian counseling offers a private and compassionate space where you can be fully honest about what you are carrying. Here, you do not have to wear a mask or keep up appearances. Instead, you are invited to bring your whole self, lean on God’s truth, and find encouragement to live authentically with greater freedom, strength, and peace.
